Women's History Month Spotlight

NCD CU Celebrates Women in Leadership

March is Women’s History Month! Before this month is over NCD CU would like to honor two women that have been of service to this community in Business, Finance, Education, and in Ministry. NCD CU honors Apostle Rachel Macarthy and Pastor Doris Santana. We see your hard work and dedication at New Covenant Dominion Credit Union as well as in other areas of New Covenant Christian Ministries. In addition to highlighting some of their accomplishments, we thought it would be fun to ask them some questions and share some information about themselves with our Credit Union Community.

Rachel Bio Pic

Apostle Rachel Macarthy, CEO, New Covenant Dominion Credit Union

Since New Covenant Dominion Credit Union came to life in 2007, Rachel Macarthy has worn many different hats. She served as one of the credit union’s founding board members, and in 2019, she stepped in as the organization’s acting CEO. Despite becoming the permanent CEO in 2021, Rachel has done everything from working as a teller to serving as a loan officer for the Bronx-based credit union. However, Rachel wouldn’t have it any other way. In addition to the work at the Credit Union, the Howard Grad has been and continues to be an integral asset to the Financial and Operational direction of the branches of social, educational and community services of New Covenant Christian Ministries since 2005.

Who is someone you admire, and why?

Rachel: My mom- She’s a superhero! She serves above and beyond people’s expectations – not because people deserve it (because most times they don’t)- but she serves out of obedience to God. She’s exciting, jovial, pleasant, beautiful, godly, has the greatest smile and the most amazing character of humility. She’s the greatest example of whatever your hands find to do, do it as unto the Lord (paraphrased). She’s the kind of person you want to have in your corner cheering you on. That’s why God gave her to me and I’m so grateful.

Do you have any skills or talents that most people don’t know about?

Rachel: I can multitask very well. Apparently, I’m told that I type very fast ๐Ÿ˜Š

If you could be anywhere other than here, right this minute, where would you be? (Don’t overthink it!)

Rachel: Really…at this exact moment…nowhere else- I actually love what I do ๐Ÿ˜‰

Finish this sentence. On Sunday mornings, you can usually find me…

Rachel: In the House of God. No other place for me on a Sunday but with my family of believers seeking the face of God.

What’s a goal you have for yourself that you want to accomplish in the next year?

Rachel: To grow in my role as a leader evidenced by learned, passionate, productive, confident and content team members and profitable business operations.

What would be your personal motto?

Rachel: The Word of God directs my life.

Doris Bio Pic

Pastor Doris Santana, Operations Officer, New Covenant Dominion Credit Union

Doris Santana is the Operations Officer at NCD CU. She has been working at the Bronx Credit Union since 2017. Doris has been serving in many capacities throughout her life as a Pastor, Educator, and member of multiple boards and committees.

Doris comes from the Land of Merengue, Dominican Republic. She has been a servant of God and a Pastor for the glory and honor of the name of Jesus since 1997. She has been married to a great gentleman for 26 years, and as a result of that relationship they have two children. She states, “I LOVE MY FAMILY!!!”

Doris studied at the National Evangelical University (UNEV). She is a graduate with degrees in Education: Social Studies Teacher and Specialist in School Administration and Higher Education. She previously worked in the Christian Reformed Schools in the Dominican Republic from 1984 to 2008. She held the positions of Academic Director and President of the Board Cooperative of Reformed Christian Schools for a total of 25 years.

After years of working and pastoring in the Dominican Republic, she came to live in the Bronx, NY. She states, “I thank God because since 2011 I have been collaborating at New Covenant Christian Ministries. I have been working in its different Departments, under the direction of our Archbishop Dr. Joseph Alexander.” Doris is dedicated to her work in the Credit Union and also doing what is necessary to spread the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.

What’s a typical day like for you?

Doris: In the morning, I pray and praise God to start my day. Then I get ready for work. At work I handle all the monetary transactions and oversee the backend operations of Credit Union systems and daily procedures. I also interact with everyone who comes into the Credit Union.  In the evening, I make dinner and spend time with my family and friends.

Do you have any skills or talents that most people don’t know about?

Doris: I love to sing. I sing on the praise and worship team for the English church services.

If you could be anywhere other than here, right this minute, where would you be? (Don’t overthink it!)

Doris: At my mother’s house in the Dominican Republic.  I love that place, because I remember my first days when I was younger. She was so kind.

Finish this sentence. On Sunday mornings, you can usually find me...

Doris: At church, every Sunday I attend two services. The first service is the Spanish service where my husband and I lead as Pastors. The second service is the English service and I participate and serve on the praise and worship team.

What’s a goal you have for yourself that you want to accomplish in the next year?

Doris: To become a Citizen of the United States.

What would be your personal motto?

Doris: NEVER GIVE UP!!!

New Covenant Dominion Credit Union honors Apostle Rachel Macarthy and Pastor Doris Santana. Keep doing the astounding work that you are doing for the community and the Kingdom of God. Your work is not going unnoticed!
